The 2005 ANTARES is mostly Mourvedre with 15% Avgoustiatis blended in, aged in oak casks for 12 months. It is gamey on the nose, which follows through strongly on the palate. It seems like very typical Mourvedre with a very French demeanor. It is full in the mouth, with some tannic grip. Its texture is soft, at least until that hit of tannin on the end. It can seem quite brooding and tight at times. If I had a quibble, it is that, like too many big Greek reds, the mid-palate falls off faster than the tannins, and it comes up a bit short. That said, this is a pretty nice effort for a rather well priced Greek Mourvedre, and it has the structure to age gracefully for several years. Drink now-2014.
