A blend of Syrah and Grenache, the Monteverro 2019 Tinata shows wonderful richness and concentration with a full range of spicy and opulent dark fruit aromas. This is a terrific organic wine that can be appreciated most of all thanks to its expertly applied Italian face to these high-performing Rh?ne varieties. There is a lot of promise in these grapes, especially along this sun-drenched stretch of coastal Tuscany. Tinata is creamy rich and opulent with sweet dark fruit, spice and baking chocolate.

Made with Syrah and Grenache, the Monteverro 2018 Tinata shows a very exotic side in this vintage that went from a cool spring to hot summer. The bouquet has elements of spice, sweet apple, baked plum, cinnamon cake and tea leaf. There really is a lot of sweet and savory spice dangled here over a core of black fruit. The 2018 vintage stands apart in that regard compared to the other vintages (2019 and 2017) also reviewed at this time. I tasted number 933 of 6,111 bottles released.

This wine represents a terrific marriage between Rh?ne varieties and sunny coastal Tuscany. From a very hot and dry vintage, the Monteverro 2017 Tinata (Syrah and Grenache with 7,829 bottles released) shows more balance next to the 2018 vintage, which is characterized by a more monotone layer of sweet cherry cola. This vintage, on the other hand, has more fruit depth, and although the flavors are on the ripe side with blackberry preserves, you get more nuance. The mouthfeel is creamy, rich and long. I would suggest a shorter drinking window for this vintage.

Here’s a happy surprise from the Tuscan Coast and definitely one of the most memorable samples I tasted from this region this year. The 2016 Tinata is a beautifully balanced blend of Syrah and Grenache that hits all its proverbial nails on the head. I admire the fullness and generosity of the wine (that is never heavy), its depth and complexity (that is never banal) and its power (that is not overblown). You get the savory fullness of Syrah with black fruit, tobacco, smoke and spice and some of the vertical freshness of the Grenache. The tannins are softly textured to the point of being creamy. It gives me great joy to enthusiastically recommend this exciting wine from Monteverro.

The 2015 Tinata represents a blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache with fruit grown in the southern part of Coastal Tuscany near the beachside resort town of Capalbio. This Rh?ne-inspired Tuscan blend is aged (70%) in barrique for 16 months and the rest goes into egg-shaped cement tanks. Some 6,430 bottles were produced. This lovely wine offers rich texture and depth with medium to full-bodied layers of dark fruit. Black currant and summer cherry are followed by smoke, spice and chocolate. This warm vintage shows extra concentration and richness.
