The 2001 Le Grand Vin, a 400-case proprietary blend of approximately two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot with a small quantity of Petit Verdot, requires 7-8 years of cellaring. This profoundly concentrated, dense, and broodingly backward offering is nearly impossible to penetrate. Nevertheless, it exhibits abundant red and black fruit flavors, excellent concentration and depth, and tremendous potential for those with patience as well as cold cellars. The 1999 Le Grand Vin Proprietary Red is a blend of two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance mostly Merlot with a dollop of Petit Verdot. Its lofty 14.3% alcohol is well-hidden beneath a full-bodied, intense style. The wine is still an infant in terms of development.
