The 2021 Elizabeth Jean Shiraz leads with lashings of oak on the nose, but it is backed by an equal showing of purple and black fruit. There are notes of garden mint, some thyme, black pepper, black tea, cracked fennel seeds and some aniseed. In the mouth, the wine is powdery and lithe, although it remains shaped by the oak it was raised in. The fruit potency suggests that this will not always be the case, so patience (as always) is advised. There is plenty of girth and hutzpah here. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
