An Australian version of a very good French Cotes du Rhone, the 2003 The Assemblage is a combination of 56% Shiraz, 27% Mourvedre, and 17% Grenache. Good peppery, kirsch-like aromas interwoven with hints of sour cherries, spice, and resin are found in this medium-bodied, richly fruity, supple, fleshy red. It should be drunk over the next 2-3 years. Imported by USA Wine West, San Rafael, CA; tel. (800) 485-5753 for John Larchet, The Australian Premium Wine Collection.
