This is one of the very few Ports where you can discern a scintilla of over-ripeness on the prune and raisin-scented bouquet. It is very heady, but there is a little nail-varnish in the background. The palate is smooth and viscous on the entry – a hedonistic, fiery, honeyed, almost “unctuous” Vintage Port that needs to develop more restraint and reserve on the finish, which is slightly cloying. Hopefully it will meliorate with further aging. Tasted May 2013.

The 2007 Pocas Vintage Port is purple/black colored with an excellent perfume of Asian spices, violets, earth notes, black currant, and blackberry. On the palate it has a solid core of fruit, good concentration, but a slightly narrow, compact finish. The flavors are enjoyable and it should evolve nicely for 6-8 years. Blueberry and black raspberry syrup aromas are found in the lively nose of the 2003 Pocas Vintage Port. An impressively grapey, primary effort with forward, satiny fruit, it reveals loads of glycerin in its inviting personality. Rich and candied, it benefited immensely from extensive contact with air. Made in a commercial, mainstream style, this dark ruby-colored port offers sweet cassis and blackberry aromas as well as flavors, medium body, but little grip or intensity in the finish.
