The 2016 Maremma Toscana Maremmante is Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc and Syrah in nearly equal parts. This is an easygoing and accessible red wine that would pair perfectly with grilled hamburgers or meatloaf. The quality of fruit is very bright and pleasurable in this vintage. Toasted espresso bean, exotic spice and black cherry appear on the close.

The 2015 Maremmante is a stripped down and informal blend of three parts Cabernet Franc and one part Syrah from 15-year-old vines. Next year, this wine will jump up from IGT status to Maremma Toscana DOC. The Cabernet Franc adds darkness and spiciness to the bouquet, meanwhile the Syrah adds plushness and softness to the mouthfeel. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and is bottled young. Drink this red blend within the next 18 months.

The 2014 Maremmante is a blend of 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Syrah. This is a compelling mix of contrasting grapes, and a fascinating wine. It is intended as a base wine and it does offer great value. No oak is used in winemaking. The bouquet is full and generous with ample primary fruit and some natural spice on the close. I am smitten by this wine. I can't think of a better pairing partner to pizza or homemade ragù.
