The 2008 Tinto "Paxa" is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet. It is a big step up on the "QO," considerably more pure, with some funky hints, but not such that dominate or overwhelm the wine, as with its little brother reviewed this issue. It also, however, has much better structure, a more serious backbone and grip on the finish. It is crisp and bright, although not terribly concentrated. The mid-palate is very elegant and gives the wine a graceful feel, despite the intensity on the finish. There were approximately 1,750 cases produced. Drink now-2016. The 2007 TINTO “PAXA” is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet, vinified in stainless steel. Powerful and a real mouthful, it also has some very earthy notes up front, a touch of char, something that might also perhaps be a hint of reduction. Beautifully constructed, it is a very nice bottle once past the bit of funk, which is a little annoying, and might moderate with some time.
