The 2005 A Trabe White is made from the indigenous varieties of Verdillo and Torrontes found in Monterrei in southern Galicia. A whopping 33 cases were produced, 15 for the USA. The wine was fermented and aged for 12 months with batonnage in the egg-shaped barrels noted above. Light gold in color, the nose offers up a kiss of oak, honey, dried herbs, mineral, and floral notes. Full-bodied, smoothly-textured, and elegant, the wine has superb depth, concentration, and length. How it will age is anyone’s guess but there is really no reason to defer gratification.
