Although the 2001 Petite Sirah Lytton Estate Essence has 10% residual sugar, it is remarkably well disguised by good acidity and structure. It is somewhat of a “tweener” wine because it does not taste sweet enough to accompany dessert, and is not dry enough to complement most food dishes. I suspect dry, hard low-fat cheeses would be the best match for this particular wine. In any event, it is very well made, exhibiting plenty of black fruits, forest floor, pepper, and spice notes. It should age effortlessly for 15+ years.Tel. (408) 867-3233
