Each year this Chardonnay represents one of the best bargains in a full-flavored, buttery, honeyed style of Chardonnay. The just-released 1992 is undeniably a steal for the price. It offers a touch of oak in its big, forward, rich, honeyed tropical fruit-scented nose, lush, opulent flavors, low acidity, and a heady finish. It should drink well for the next 8-12 months. This winery has proven to be a consistent performer with respect to its non-reserve cuvees, which I prefer to their more ambitiously styled, as well as more expensive cuvees of Chardonnay and Syrah. The 1991 Chardonnay offers about as much flavor as one can find in a Chardonnay for $10 a bottle. The huge nose of buttery tropical fruit and subtle oak is followed by a fleshy wine, with rich, honeyed, melon and apple-like flavors, medium to full body, a highly satisfying, fleshy texture, and a surprisingly intense, crisp finish. Drink it over the next year.
