Salomon’s 2007 Gelber Traminer Noble Reserve strikes me as another example that he is most successful in the nobly sweet range when it comes to his Yellow Traminer. I hasten to add that this wine’s 25 grams of residual sugar are so well integrated that to call the effect outright “sweet” would mislead. Yellow roses, lychee, and subtle smokiness waft throughout this satin-textured, juicy, and elegant wine. Seamlessly smooth and clinging yet with a transparency and finishing lift that no other member of the Traminer family can deliver, it will prove a marvelous and ingenious compliment to any number of dishes if given the attention it deserves. You constantly had to change your plans during harvest, commented Berthold Salomon, whose crew picked from late September well into November.Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel.
