Readers looking for a non-malolactic, powerful Chardonnay that has been gently touched by oak should check out Seavey's refreshing 1999. Indigenous yeasts are used during fermentation, but there is little lees stirring, and only 25% new oak is utilized in the wine's upbringing. Yet this 1999 Chardonnay possesses plenty of power as well as gorgeously ripe pear and honeyed citrus notes, full body, excellent freshness, and impressive extract and richness. Most non-malolactic Chardonnays lack texture and interest, but that is not the case with Seavey's offering. It will drink well for 3-4 years.Tel. (707) 963-8339; Fax (707) 963-0232
