The 1994 Chardonnay Limited Reserve possesses tart acidity, but its concentration and intensity tend to off-set the acidic bite. The acidity does give vibrancy and freshness to the wine's full-bodied, concentrated style. The wine's lemony, citrusy component parts are nicely touched by high quality smoky new oak. This wine needs another 3-6 months of bottle age, but it should drink well for 4-5 years.I realize its wines are commercially successful, but to my mind, this winery still practices the lamentable technique of adding too much acidity to their wines, particularly the reds. The wines too often possess a compact, compressed, tart character, simply because the added acidity lowers the wine's PH, obstructing and shielding the wine's texture, expansiveness, and flavors behind an abrasive wall of acid.Tel.
