It is hard to understand this offering, which tastes more like an $8 to $10 red wine. A vague, muted bouquet is the correct prelude to this muffled Shiraz. It exhibits a dark plum/ruby color, medium body, noticeable vanilla/oak, and easygoing, friendly red and black fruit flavors, but there is little weight, and the finish is superficial as well as short. So many different flavors and aromas surface in the Simi that it’s like a day at the market. The bouquet shows appealing raspberry sorbet, root-beer, popcorn and cigar-box notes. The mouth bursts with rich caramel, semi-sweet chocolate, paprika and deep black fruit flavors. Simi's debut vintage of Shiraz is an open-knit, fruity wine with a medium ruby color, as well as a lovely nose of crushed black fruits intertwined with floral, pepper, and vanilla scents.
