You could easily stock up guilt-free on the 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo. The wine knocks it out of the ballpark in this vintage. It shows lovely concentration and lots of color saturation that only comes to Nebbiolo in the best vintages. The bouquet reveals quality fruit with bold cherry and fresh blackberry. The results are especially bright and full of juicy fruit flavors. This is a well-priced option to recommend en masse for your favorite weekday meals. Production is 10,000 bottles.

Here's a terrific wine to serve at informal dinners, like a meal served outdoors under patio lights on a warm summer night. The Sottimano 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo delivers chiseled and focused aromas with a leading mineral component of crushed limestone or calcium, backed by delicate forest berry, tar and fresh licorice root. Don't underestimate the wine's simplicity. It comes off as slender and streamlined, but those fluid aromas grow and shift with time in the glass.

They did not make this wine in 2017 because of hail damage, but the 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo turned out quite elegant and fine. The vines are about 15 years old here, and yet you pick up very refined notes. Again, we're dealing with an ample 30 days of maceration and ten days of submerged cap, similar to every Barbaresco they make, but the difference here is you don't need perfect skins like you do with the other expressions. It's one of those wines that leaves a few unanswered questions, and even Andrea Sottimano is left a little perplexed when trying to come up with a comparison for this wine, surmising only that the elegant nature is due to the long maceration times. At any rate, the 2016 vintage is definitely more classic in its approach and has more power than this, but the 2018 is its own mysterious thing. Some 22,000 bottles were made.

Sottimano's 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo is a juicy, fruit-forward wine that paints a pretty picture of young Nebbiolo. The wine also makes a great argument for the quality of the 2016 vintage, especially as it pertains to this magnificent grape from Piedmont. It's hard not to be super enthusiastic for a wine with this wide drinking appeal and food-pairing versatility. In truth, this wine shows enough tannic firmness for some near-term aging, although there's no good reason not to drink it now. With 20,000 bottles made, you get phenomenal value here.

Located in the Nieve area, Sottimano sources fruit for this wine from across the larger Langhe appellation. The 2015 Langhe Nebbiolo is a terrific, mid-weight wine to pair with white meat, roasted ham or chicken. It opens to a light garnet color and offers great aromatic intensity. I wish I had a few more bottles of this (well-priced) wine around the house. Dark cherry is followed by earthy tones, licorice and ash.
