I tasted four 1995 Chardonnays under the Steele label, all impeccably made and deliciously fruity. The 1995 Chardonnay Du Pratt Vineyard possesses some unreleased CO2 that gives the wine attractive vibrancy. Boasting gobs of honeyed tropical fruit, this medium to full-bodied, purely made wine is delicious to smell and taste. The long finish reveals plenty of tropical fruit. The opulent, rich, pure, honeysuckle-scented 1994 Chardonnay Du Pratt Vineyard is loaded with layers of creamy fruit. It possesses considerable complexity, as well as outstanding depth, ripeness, and overall balance. This full-flavored Chardonnay never comes across as heavy or too powerful. It should drink well for 2-3 years. Other than Kistler and Marcassin, it is unlikely readers will find a bevy of such consistently high quality Chardonnays from one particular vintage.
