Solely from estate grown fruit the 2008 Pinot Noir was also fermented with indigenous yeast and matured in Burgundy barrels, 30% new. With a medium ruby color giving just a touch of purple, there’s a pleasant suggestion of that wild ferment on the nose with some cinnamon and anise, red cherry, loam, bark, and some truffles. The medium to full-bodied palate has crisp acidity and a medium level of finely grained tannins supporting the great concentration of ripe berry flavors. The finish is long and earthy. It should be at its finest from 2011 to 2016+. Husband and wife team Steve and Monique Lubiana are at the helm of this small, family run operation just north of Hobart. The estate has been organically managed for 7-8 years and is in the process of converting to biodynamics. Average annual production is around 10,000 cases. No known US importer.
