The Tabarrini 2018 Montefalco Sagrantino Colle Grimaldesco reveals a rich character and inky appearance with layers of dark fruit that peel back with intensity. The wine is thickly textured and full-bodied with slightly dusty tannins. It sees extended skin maceration and 36 months of aging in oak botte. Colle Grimaldesco is definitely on the bigger side of the spectrum, and that impression is reinforced by the very high 16% alcohol content. Production is exactly 6,582 bottles in this edition.

The 2013 Montefalco Sagrantino Colle Grimaldesco is one of Tabarrini's three single-vineyard selections. This plot has looser soils with sandy limestone. The bouquet is the most delicate here, with wild berry aromas backed by spice, crushed granite, spice and tar. The mouthful is also longer and more polished in this case. This wine sees the largest production numbers of the three wines at 14,000 bottles made per year.
