The 2005 Tagonius Gran Vino is made up of 65% Merlot, 15% Tempranillo, with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah aged in 100% new French oak. It sports a slightly reticent perfume of toasty oak, pencil lead, incense, lavender, thyme, blackberry, and black currant. Mouth-filling and full-bodied on the palate, this buxom offering is loaded with layered fruit, succulent flavors, plenty of fine-grained tannin, incipient complexity, and a lengthy, pure finish. It demands another 5-7 years of cellaring and its drinking window will extend from 2015 to 2030. The 2004 Gran Vino is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo aged for 19 months in French and American oak. It reveals a super-expressive nose of pain grille, pencil lead, Asian spices, leather, and black cherry. This is followed by a velvety-textured, layered, elegant, intensely flavored wine with 4-6 years of aging potential. It has a drinking window that will extend from 2014 to 2024. There are only 290 cases of the 2003 Gran Vino, a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Syrah and 5% Tempranillo aged for 19 months in new French and American oak. Opaque purple, it has a brooding nose of pain grille, pencil lead, tar, violets, black cherry, blackberry, and black currants. This is followed by a broad, layered yet elegant wine with superb balance and enough stuffing to evolve for another 10-12 years.
