The 2005 Tagonius Gran Vino is made up of 65% Merlot, 15% Tempranillo, with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah aged in 100% new French oak. It sports a slightly reticent perfume of toasty oak, pencil lead, incense, lavender, thyme, blackberry, and black currant. Mouth-filling and full-bodied on the palate, this buxom offering is loaded with layered fruit, succulent flavors, plenty of fine-grained tannin, incipient complexity, and a lengthy, pure finish. It demands another 5-7 years of cellaring and its drinking window will extend from 2015 to 2030. Bodegas Tagonius’s new collection is first-class.Importer: Well Oiled Wine Company, Leesburg, VA; www.welloiledwineco.com
