The 2015 The Visionary Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced in Clare Valley. After 12 months in French oak (50% new), a barrel selection was undertaken, and the best were returned to barrel for a further 12 months maturation, prior to bottling in 2018. Two years in oak has left an indelible mark on this wine: savory, smoky, dry and sturdy in this regard, and the fruit is forced to stretch out over the framework. There are notes of freshly tanned leather, mulberry, salted chocolate and licorice. This is a savory, earthy, dense Cabernet Sauvignon that is lacking the freshness and vitality expected from an eight-year-old wine. Old-school Cabernet here, with cigar box and tobacco leaf.
