The 2010 Palistorti di Valgiano comes across as a bit fleeting in this vintage. Sweet dark cherries, crushed flowers, spices, leather and licorice waft from the glass as the wine opens up. The 2009 Palistorti di Valgiano is a beautiful, radiant wine graced with exquisite finesse in its dark red fruit. It shows compelling inner palate sweetness, with more than enough minerality to balance some of the vintage’s riper qualities. Vintage 2009 was characterized by warm, hot weather until a big storm hit in mid-September. Still, this entry-level bottling shows terrific harmony and bodes quite well for the flagship 2009 Tenuta.
