The 2015 Casavecchia Centomoggia has a touch of Band-Aid or natural rubber on the bouquet that could strengthen with time. Indeed, it is very mild at the moment, making this wine best for near-term drinking. The ripeness of the fruity bouquet, plus the soft nature of the tannins is further motivation to drinking this wine straight out of the gate. Dark fruit, plum and black currant rise to the top of the bouquet. Only 5,000 bottles were made.

The 2012 Casavecchia Centomoggia moves over the palate with soft tannins and a rich, velvety texture. This expression of the Casavecchia grape is aged partially in new oak (30%) and in neutral oak for one year. The aging process has given the wine ample time to flesh out and develop its more elaborate and succulent flavor profile.

Beautiful in concept and execution, the 2011 Terre del Volturno Casavecchia Centomoggia opens to densely extracted concentration and compelling aromas of dark fruit, pressed cherries, tar licorice, dark smoke and wild porcini mushroom. The wine flaunts a personality that is powerful, rustic and cheerful. It does a great job of capturing the rugged but beautiful scenery that characterizes the Castel Campagnano area where the vineyards are located. Fruit is harvested from two sites with 30-year-old and 120-year-old plants respectively. The wine sees 30% new oak.

The 2008 Casavecchia Centomoggia reveals gorgeous density and richness in its dark, sepia-toned fruit. Dark red berries, flowers and minerals come together nicely on the mid-weight frame. The French oak is a touch pronounced at this stage, but a few more months in the bottle should help the wine come together. Floral notes add to the high-toned, silky finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017. The richness of Campanian oenology is still being discovered. This inky, thick and well- extracted wine (made from Casavecchia grapes) offers very pretty aromas of dark chocolate, prune, exotic spice and black jammy fruit. The tannins are soft and polished and the wine performs even better after a few minutes in the glass. ——M.L.(6/1/2011)—— 90
