The 2008 Casavecchia Centomoggia reveals gorgeous density and richness in its dark, sepia-toned fruit. Dark red berries, flowers and minerals come together nicely on the mid-weight frame. The French oak is a touch pronounced at this stage, but a few more months in the bottle should help the wine come together. Floral notes add to the high-toned, silky finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017.
The richness of Campanian oenology is still being discovered. These superb new releases from Terre del Principe are great starting points for readers who want to discover the virtues of Pallagrello Bianco, Pallagrello Nero and Casavecchia, all indigenous, native varieties that proprietor Peppe Mancini helped revive from near obscurity.
