Beginning with a red-fruited nose with sweet black pepper aromas, the 2016 Syrah is decisive and correct in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is strangely acidic and tart with a tightness that leaves me scratching my head. It has a balanced structure and flavors of black pepper that fill the mouth before ending with a quick acid-driven finish. 925 cases produced.

With its aromas and flavors of black fruits, grilled meats and cracked pepper, the medium-bodied and keenly priced 2015 Syrah certainly offers up some character for its modest tariff. Drink this chewy, somewhat rustic wine over the next handful of years.

The value-priced 2013 Syrah is a winner that over-delivers. Co-fermented with 2% Roussanne and from a mix of vineyards spread throughout the Columbia Valley, it has solid freshness in its ripe darker fruits, spice, licorice and olive aromas and flavors. Aged 18 months in 15% new French oak puncheons, this medium to full-bodied charmer has tons of fruit, no hard edges and a great finish. Buy a case and drink it over the coming 3-4 years.

A killer value, the 2012 Columbia Valley Syrah tasted like it came from the Rock region of Walla Walla. Olive, smoked plums, licorice, gamy meats and wild herbs all give way to a full-bodied, upfront, supple and hedonistic Syrah that’s ideal for drinking over the coming 3-4 years. The blend is 98% Syrah and 2% Roussanne, and it saw roughly 35% whole clusters and 18 months in 12% new French oak puncheons. It is well worth checking out!

An incredible value, the 2011 Syrah Columbia Valley knocks it out of the park with its sexy, supple and Rocks’esk-like profile of ripe blueberry fruit, smoked bacon, wild herbs and loamy earth. Co-fermented with 5% Roussanne and 20% stems, this medium to full-bodied, textured, voluptuous effort has fabulous purity and a terrific finish. It should be purchased by the case and consumed over the coming 5 to 6 years. While I enjoyed the 2010s from this estate last year, I was blown away by the 2011s.
