The 2005 Sparkling Chardonnay was made methode traditionelle and disgorged after four and a half years on lees. It gives an expressive nose of brioche, toasted nuts and apple tart over peach blossoms and honeycomb. Medium bodied, the palate is rich with autolytic, ripe apple and peach flavors. A good backbone of crisp acidity cuts through the concentration and the finish is long and toasty. Not from a region known for its sparkling wines, this is a surprisingly good example. Drink it now to 2015+. Although Umamu Estate is a relatively new venture initiated in 2005, the vineyards are well established, dating back to 1978. These early efforts are very good and suggest a lot of potential.Imported by: Karadeci Group Inc, Tampa, FL; www.karadeci.com
