Slightly more backward, but seductive, and very Provencal in style is the 2007 Vacqueyras Domaine Bessons Dupre. A huge nose of smoked herbs, roasted meats, lavender, pepper, garrigue, and kirsch soars from the glass of this dark ruby/plum-tinged wine. Medium to full-bodied with rich fruit, an endearing attack, and a tannic, long finish, this impressive blend of 55% Grenache and 45% Syrah should age for 5-6 years.
