The 2007 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano comes across as a bit brawny. There is plenty of depth and richness in the glass, but also hints of wildness that detract from the wine’s overall balance. The 2007 needs time in the glass to come together, but some of rusticity never completely blows off. Tobacco, game and French oak are some of the notes that frame the finish. There isn’t a whole lot of vintage 2007 sexiness here. I can’t help thinking this could have been a far more interesting wine. The Vino Nobile is 90% Sangiovese plus 10% Mammolo, Colorino, Canaiolo and Merlot, and was aged in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.
