The 2008 Menguante Tempranillo comes from younger vines and spent 5 months in new French and American oak. Purple in color with a slightly reticent nose of cedar, underbrush, mineral, and blackberry, on the palate it is succulent bordering on opulent. Layered, ripe, and full-flavored, this lengthy offering over-delivers in a big way. Bodegas Pablo is a family-owned winery in the DO of Carinena. They farm biodynamically and the estate vineyards range in age from 30 to 100+ years. The 2005 Menguante Tempranillo was aged 3 months in new French oak. A saturated purple in color, it offers up fragrant aromas of violets, vanilla, blueberry and blackberry liqueur. Medium to full-bodied, this juicy effort has abundant forward fruit and excellent length. Nicely balanced, it can be enjoyed now and over the next 4 years. It is an outstanding value.
