The 2006 Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso shows off gorgeous layers of dark fruit with, flowers, sweet spices, all supported by finessed tannins. This is a beautifully balanced red from Volpe Pasini. I can't say there is a ton a varietal character here, but that bothers me less with Refosco, a finicky, rustic grape. Ideally the Refosco is best enjoyed while the fruit retains its juicy, plump personality. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016. The 2006 Refosco offers good varietal definition in its dark fruit, roasted coffee beans and wild herbs, all of which come together very nicely. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011.
