The 2022 Siefersheim Riesling Porphyr comes from the best Riesling parcels in Siefersheim that are cultivated on extremely stony, skeleton-rich sand, gravel and clay soils with porphyry rock in the subsoil. Vinified in stainless steel tank and traditional German oak casks, this intensely yellow-colored wine opens with a dense, elegant and still a little bit untamed reductive nose of lemon juice intertwined with vegetal notes of lemon balm as well as sur lies and flinty aromas. Round, refined and juicy on the palate, this medium-weight Riesling reveals fine and nervy acidity and persistent mineral tension as well as a clearly defined, dry and discreetly bitter finish with fine tannins and persistent salinity. This is an excellent Riesling, and at this price, it's another bargain from this organic producer. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap closure. Tasted in January 2024.
