The 2009 Finca de los Vientos is 100% Prieto Picudo that was naturally fermented and raised in stainless steel. An earthy minerality, a hint of balsamic, and cranberry aromas inform the nose of this ripe, succulent, moderately structured red. The 2009 Finca de los Vientos is made from Prieto Picudo, an indigenous grape planted at a high elevation of 2,400 feet. Somewhat of a “l(fā)ike it or leave it” effort that was aged completely in tank, it reveals a volcanic, earthy, almost fecal character, with nearly bizarre aromatics. While it may be controversial, I thought readers should have a chance to taste something from this particular grape.
