The 1994 Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve offers a light to medium ruby color, and a muted nose that gradually reveals soft berry fruit, earth, and pain grillee scents. Lean, with moderate tannin dominating the wine's average level of concentration, this is a spicy, moderately endowed wine that does not possess the depth or intensity found in previous vintages. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
This estate has been making fine Pinot Noir, so I was surprised by the lack of intensity, and the lean, austere personalities of the 1994 Pinot Noir Reserve and the Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve.
