With classic Chardonnay tones, the 2017 Chardonnay Shirley Mays opens with aromas of apple and pear with notions of banana peel and cereal grains compounded by oak tones. Full-bodied, the palate is fresh and ripe, focusing more on flavors of banana bread as the wine begins to feel hot on the palate with the fruit presence tapering off. Concluding with a tropical fruit finish, the wine is enjoyable but could use the support of energetic acidity to keep the freshness. Only 418 cases were produced.
