The 2010 Bolgheri Rosso Aska is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with a small part Cabernet Franc. It opens with a bold and darkened color followed by pristine aromas of blackberry, fresh prune and plum. Those fruit tones are wrapped by compelling layers of spice, fire roasted tobacco and dark chocolate. Congratulations are in order for this impressive debut performance. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020.
Cementing a feeling of momentum and dynamic growth in the region, the biggest newsflash from Bolgheri in 2013 was the acquisition of vineyards by Castello Banfi, celebrated producers of Brunello di Montalcino. The Tuscan giant purchased five hectares and has released a Bolgheri Rosso so far (with an initial annual production of 20,000 bottles). A Bolgheri Superiore is in the works.
