The 2007 Castillo de Almansa Seleccion is an equal blend of Monastrell, Garnacha, Tempranillo and Syrah including vines up to 90 years in age, matured in new French oak for 12 to 14 months. It has a ripe, slightly leathery bouquet with fruitcake, dried fig, cloves and black fruit that needs a little more focus. The palate is medium-bodied, harmonious with sappy licorice-tinged black fruit that moves towards a pleasant, rather masculine, saline-tinged finish. There is a slight coarseness in the mouth, but it shows good length. Drink now-2016.
