Proprietors Louis and Michel Bronzo have fashioned a luxury cuvee made from 100% Mourvedre from a vineyard called Fontanieu. It is bottled unfiltered, and the result is a profoundly rich, backward, dense, meaty, smoky, black fruit and earthy-scented wine with gobs of extract, full body, high tannin, and an intense, long, chewy, rustic finish. This is not a wine for shy tasters. It is a bold, masculine Bandol in need of 3-4 years of cellaring; it should drink well for 15+ years. Readers may remember that earlier this year I recommended the sensational cuvee of old vine Mourvedre made by Chateau Pradeaux, which is the finest cuvee of pure Mourvedre I have ever tasted. Domaine Bastide-Blanche's offering is a close second.Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 932-2745.
