The 1983, undoubtedly the finest Kirwan made during the eighties, exhibits a dark ruby/garnet color with some amber at the edge. The nose reveals interesting scents of smoked herbs, charcoal, black currants and weedy tobacco. This medium-bodied, rustic as well as corpulent style of Kirwan has plenty of body and flesh. Rustic tannin in the finish should melt away with another 1-2 years of bottle age. Fortunately, this wine's fruit and vigor remain lively. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted 9/97
