The 2005 Sforzato di Valtellina Ronco del Picchio is made in a relatively soft, generous style. It doesn’t have the sheer muscle and complexity of the 2004, and the sweetness from the dried grapes seems to play a bigger role in this wine’s overall balance. This is a gorgeous, generous Sforzato to enjoy over the following years. The 2005 is more typical of what most readers are likely to expect from Sforzato while the 2004 could easily be confused for a wine made from strictly fresh (i.e. non-dried) grapes.
