The dense ruby/purple 2007 Syrah Tinaquaic Vineyard (from a 2,000-acre ranch that has been in the proprietor’s family for many years) has a super nose of bacon fat, lard, blackberry, and spice. Unctuously textured, full-bodied, with sweet silky tannins and a seamless integration of wood, alcohol, and tannin, this is a big, velvety-textured Syrah to drink over the next 5-7 years. Foxen’s lighter-styled, more evolved 2008s are delicious, charming efforts without the density of the brilliant 2007s. However, do not underestimate them. Tel. (805) 937-4251
