Guffens' 1991s are immensely successful wines. Among the Cote d'Or offerings, the 1991 Puligny-Montrachet-Les Enseigneres is light golden-colored, with a super, well-focused bouquet of honeyed melons, apples, and floral scents, rich, medium to full-bodied flavors, and a long, crisp, zesty finish. It is a classically made, textbook Puligny-Montrachet that should drink well for the next 5-6 years. These are truly the wines of a genius. I suspect their quality is so high it will shake-up a lot of white burgundy producers who have been resting on their historical reputations for far too long.
