One of the new super-stars of the appellation, Yves Cuilleron, who also produces red and white St.-Joseph as well as Cote Rotie, is best known for his dazzling cuvees of Condrieu. In such top vintages as 1994, his Condrieu comes in three styles and sizes. The rare, limited quantity (made from only one-half ton of botrytised fruit per acre) 1994 Condrieu Les Eguets Vendange Tardive is sweet Auslese-styled wine. It is oily, huge, dense, and oh, so pure and impressive. Massive and super-concentrated, it is the quintessential expression of Viognier. Made in a sweet format, this is a wine-making tour de force. It should drink well for 4-5 years. Since only a handful of cases will make it to America, this review is largely of academic interest. This wine was tasted in September, 1995, from bottle, unless otherwise noted. Prices quoted are based on the current exchange rate of five francs per dollar.Importer: Neal Rosenthal, Select Vineyards, Shekomeko, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990
