The 2005 Lealtanza Reserva Seleccion Especial spent 18 months in new French oak barrels. Opaque purple in color, it displays a similar aromatic array to the Club Reserva as well as a similar flavor profile. However, it lacks its depth and complexity as well as its age-worthiness. Glass-staining ruby. Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, cherry compote, pipe tobacco, oak spices and minerals. Deeply concentrated flavors of cherry, dark berries, licorice and vanilla are impressively juicy and energetic, with a zesty mineral nuance contributing tension.
