An amazing bargain is the 1995 Cuvee Terre d'Argence. Made from 90% Syrah and 10% old vine Grenache (the Syrah vines average 35 years), this wine is reminiscent of an Hermitage. The wine possesses an opaque purple color, a fabulous nose of cassis, fresh black pepper, and flowers, awesome richness, layers of ripe fruit, enough acidity and soft tannin to provide a framework, and an opulently-textured, long finish. This completely tank-fermented wine is bottled unfiltered. It should drink well for a decade. What a discovery, but now the bad news, only 80 cases of this wine were brought into the United States.Wow! Another terrific discovery from Costieres de Nimes, that sun-drenched portion of Provence south of Avignon. This estate, which has a vineyard blanketed with the football-sized galet ronde (large oblong-shaped rocks), is run by Francois Collard.Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel (610) 932-2745
