From 37-year-old vines planted in sandy soils (the Vine Vale sector of Barossa), the 2004 Grenache Christine’s reveals wonderful purity, a resiny character, and sweet cherries intermixed with hints of strawberry jam and pepper. Fragrant, medium-bodied, surprisingly elegant and restrained, it is a classic Grenache to drink over the next 4-5 years. If you haven’t yet noticed, Christian Canute is one of Australia’s finest young mavericks. At the ripe old age of 28, he’s doing work that suggests someone with twice as much experience.Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel. (888) 472-5283
