The 2011 Alguiera Mencia Joven comes from younger Mencia vines and is fermented in stainless steel, seeing no oak. It has a rustic but charming nose of blackberry infused with tomato leaf and soy. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft, simple opening of pure black cherry and blackberry, dovetailing into an uncomplicated but well-balanced, supple blackberry and boysenberry finish. So drinkable, so delicious! Drink now-2014.
Adega Algueira overlooks the River Sil from its lofty perch and uses fruit from its own vineyards: Mencia, Alvarello, Merenzao, and Caino for their reds, and Godello, Loureiro, Alvarino and Treixadura for the whites. Fernando Gonzalez Riveiro oversees a splendid portfolio that epitomizes the freshness and vitality that both the white and reds can offer.
