The dark ruby/garnet color of the 1985 Santo Stefano is just beginning to display some amber/orange at the edge, and the explosive bouquet of dried red fruits, mushrooms, and, I believe, white truffles soars from the glass. This full-bodied, concentrated, yet surprisingly forward Barbaresco is beautifully endowed with layer upon layer of sweet, expansive fruit. The finish is long, alcoholic, and impressive. Drinkable now, this great Barbaresco should continue to evolve for another 5-10 years. Importer: William Grant and Son, New York, NY.
