The 1993 Zinfandel Old Vine reveals a saturated black/ruby color, a late harvest nose of prunes, overripe black-cherries, spices, and earth. Full-bodied, with sweet, expansive, opulently-textured fruit, this wine finishes dry despite what appears to be a late harvest style. Massive and rich, it is reminiscent of a pre-1978 Montevina Zinfandel from the same region. Drink it over the next 8-10 years as its high alcohol will unquestionably hold it together. This is an impressive wine!
Winemaker Scott Harvey turns out limited production, exceptionally high quality Zinfandels from some of Amador's most renowned vineyards. The Old Vine cuvee comes from a 54-year old plot, which is young when compared to the 83-year old Eschen Vineyard and 125-year old Grand Pere Vineyard.
