The 2006 Burton’s Grenache (55%)-Shiraz (44%) includes a drop of Viognier in the blend. The Grenache component was sourced from a vineyard planted by Richard Hamilton’s father in 1947. The wine was aged for 22 months in mostly new French oak. Deep crimson-colored, the nose reveals smoke, cedar, black cherry, and blueberry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied elegant wine with fleshy berry fruit, soft acidity, and enough silky tannin to evolve for 2-3 years. Drink this lengthy effort from 2010 to 2018.
