The Ettore Germano 2018 Langhe Riesling Hérzu (closed in a screw cap bottle) is faithful to this German variety in substance, although it shows an all-Italian soul. The bouquet is redolent of citrus, tropical fruit, tangerine, beeswax and faint petroleum. It delivers a lean approach with snappy freshness on the close. Hérzu is fermented in stainless steel and sees about seven months of aging on the lees. The grapes are harvested from a southeast-facing plot at 500 to 550 meters above sea level with rocky limestone and calcareous soils that contribute to the saline or mineral sensations you get here. Some 27,000 bottles were produced.
