The 1997 Chardonnay Reserve (made from purchased fruit) is put through partial malolactic fermentation, then aged in 100% new oak. It is a good, straightforward Chardonnay with tropical fruit notes (primarily pineapple), fine purity, medium body, and a moderately intense bouquet. Although it will not win any prizes for being super-complex or profoundly rich, it is a well-made Chardonnay. The goal of this winery, which sits on the premises of the former Villa Mt. Eden, is to gradually build its production to 10,000 cases. Production in 1998 is projected to be about 7,500 cases. The principal wine is Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is also Chardonnay and a small quantity of so-so Sangiovese. The wines are made by Nils Venge, who is located down the street.Tel.
